Research Grants
- OSR Research Grants - Faculty or student initiated projects from a variety of disciplines are awarded in amounts up to $500. [list of current projects]
- Phi Kappa Phi Undergraduate Research Grants - This grant will provide up to $500 to cover the costs associated with a research project or creative endeavor.
- International Student Research Grants - 3-5 awards up to $1,500 are available to undergraduate or graduate students to conduct projects that have an International focus.
- Cratis D. Williams Graduate Reserach Grants (formerly Graduate Student Research Grants) - Awards up to $400 are available to graduate students for completion of their capstone/exit research project, product of learning, Thesis, or Dissertation.
- BeActive NC / Appalachian Partnership Grants - These projects, awarded in amounts up to $1000, will
examine potential benefits of regular physical activity/exercise from a physiological, psychological, epidemiological, sociological, economical, or public health perspective.
- Public Service Research Program Grants (PSRP) - Awards up to $500 are available to undergraduate students who would like to connect public service with their academic work/research interests through a senior thesis.
- GSAS Research Grants - Graduate Student Association Senate awards research grants up to $500.
Travel Grants
Undergraduate Research Assistantships (URA)
There will be no Fall 2009 URA application deadline due to the state budget crisis; however the OSR is now accepting applications for the Spring 2010 URA program. All applications are due by Tuesday, December 1, 2009.
The URAs offer highly motivated undergraduate students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty member on his/her research, scholarship, or creative activity. Faculty members, in consultation with students, are encouraged to apply for an Undergraduate Research Assistantship.
Academy of Science Scholarships
This program provides freshman, sophomore, and transfer students in science and mathematics and high-school interns a $350 scholarship per semester with additional funding for equipment and research instruments. Apply for an Undergraduate Academy of Science Scholarship.
S-STEM Scholarships
The main purpose of the program is to attract students to major in computer science or applied mathematics and to help them succeed in these majors. Our recent S-STEM grant provides a limited number of scholarships to the Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, and Biology majors to work with the Computer Science and Math scholars on interdisciplinary problems. Summer Bridge Program
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for calculus and make them ready to major in math and science.
The Summer Bridge Program starts in second summer session. The Summer Bridge Program is available to the Appalachian State Incoming freshmen who intend to major in Mathematics or Science and have a SAT Math Score less than 600 and/or have not had the Pre-Calculus Course in High School.
